Research domains as defined in the 1figr data are very broad. To better approximate the relevant disciplines at UVA, we generated new disciplinary categories based on a combination of domains and fields in the initial data. The following figures show the use – all article downloads in 2017, current year article downloads in 2017, UVA references, and UVA-authored publications – by these newly-defined discplines. Note that this captures the assigned research discipline of the article, not of the researcher downloading, referencing, or publishing.
Below we show similar information for Elsevier journals – use by domain – with use disaggregated into the Subscribed Collection and Freedom Collection. Both are shown for comparison. In general, the majority of use is for journals in the Subscribed Collection.
